Re-purposing Magazine Files

A magazine file is one of my favorite organizing tools. You can use it for more than just printed materials or office folders.  Here are some uses I found for it.

A magazine file makes a good can food keeper or dispenser just like what I did here!

It is also a great place to keep kitchen items like foil, wax paper, plastic wraps and the like.

If you attach this to the back of one of your kitchen cabinets, just imagine how much drawer space you can save!

I found someone who did the same thing but used it for her blow dryer instead. Such a space saver!

Christmas is just around the corner. A magazine file makes a great container for a gift basket. Here’s a sample of what I prepared.

My favorite use for a magazine file is for my shoes. I was able to fit 8 pairs of shoes in this one and was able to save a ton of space inside my shoe closet because of it.

You can use it for flip flops, too!

Let me know if you find other ways to re-purpose a magazine file.  Until next time, stay OCfied!

Book Upcycle Ideas

Do you have a lot of old books lying around? This can be one of the major causes of clutter around your home. For books that aren’t readable anymore, don’t relegate them to the recycle bin just yet. You can still re-purpose them into something useful again!

You can turn your old books into a one-of-a-kind lamp just like this. What a wonderful idea for a reading room!

If you feel like taking on this project, you can get the step by step instructions for it here.

Here is another version of that project except that in this one, the books were painted in a solid color.

Egg Tray Egg-citing Upcycle Ideas

Don’t throw those egg trays away! There are many uses for them.

Too many accessories? That’s okay, it’s a girl thing! To keep them organized, you can repurpose a plastic egg tray just like this.

You can also use an egg tray as a sewing kit.  See how you can easily separate buttons, pins and spools with it?

At home, I use egg trays as paint palettes.

The bottom of an egg tray can be used for a preschool stamping activity.

Cover a used egg tray with craft paper from National Book Store and you’ve got yourself a nice gift box!

For parties, an egg tray can become a useful appetizer serveware.

Now if you are feeling a bit crafty, here’s a decorative project you can do with your old egg trays!

With just a little bit of imagination, you will find your own egg-hilirating uses for egg trays, too.

Dish It Out!

Looking for ways to organize your work station? Here is a great idea using something that you probably already own!

If you have an EXTRA DISH RACK at home, you can use this to organize your envelopes, folders and pens!

Here is a dish rack I bought a year ago but then I decided to get another one that could fit in more dinnerware.  So instead of giving it away, I repurposed it as an OFFICE CADDY.

The slots meant to hold your dishes up are perfect for files and paper.  This particular one I have is just the right length for short sized folders and envelopes.

The finish is perfect as it is made of rubber and so the material acts like a slip guard.

The drying cup meant for kitchen utensils is perfect for keeping pens, highlighters, scissors and other small things.

The thin edges are useful too as it makes a perfect home for my binder clips.

Organizing makes our tasks a lot more manageable. The less clutter we have, the easier it is to take control of other things in our life.

Happy organizing!
