Personalized Leuchtturm Journals

Leuchtturm Journals

I just met my perfect notebook — Leuchtturm Journals!  Last April 29, National Book Store launched the “Personalize Your Leuchtturm (loy-turm) Journal” event at their branch in Glorietta, Makati. We got to engrave our names on the soft leather cover of our chosen journal. Here’s me with mine.  You will fall in love with this notebook’s details! From its ink proof and acid proof paper, its numbered pages, its detachable sheets, to its page marker, elastic enclosure band and most of all, the myriad of colors that you can choose from!

Finding the Perfect Planner

I respect digital apps that make our lives easier. I have a calendar and tasklist app on my mobile phone that I just can’t live without. But I also keep an old fashioned planner – you know the kind that’s made of paper and needs an actual pen! 🙂

There is something I love about planners. I find its physicality just more personal. I am the type who likes making micro notes and a ton of micro checklists. It allows me to doodle in spaces, stick notes or used tickets, or use a colored pen whenever I feel like it. I’ve always kept one since I was in high school and it’s so reassuring to know that though my computer may crash or phone might go obsolete, my paper planners will always be there to give me an archaeological preview of the years that was.

That’s why I took a look at three Belle de Jour planners and hopefully this review will help you decide which one best suits you.

1. Belle de Jour Power Planner

If you’re a girl who needs inspiration all year long, then this is the planner for you. It is filled with pages upon pages of empowering thoughts and tips that will help you achieve the life of your dreams.

There is a dream board, a happiness list, a travel checklist, a menstrual tracker and so many more!

What I like about this planner is that you can actually personalize it by adding your name on the front cover.

I bought my first Belle de Jour planner many years ago. Back then what excited me about it were all the discount coupons inside! What girl doesn’t love shopping and eating out right? The 2015 planner comes with a booklet filled with these discount coupons plus stickers, too.

Book Upcycle Ideas

Do you have a lot of old books lying around? This can be one of the major causes of clutter around your home. For books that aren’t readable anymore, don’t relegate them to the recycle bin just yet. You can still re-purpose them into something useful again!

You can turn your old books into a one-of-a-kind lamp just like this. What a wonderful idea for a reading room!

If you feel like taking on this project, you can get the step by step instructions for it here.

Here is another version of that project except that in this one, the books were painted in a solid color.

An old book with some printed fabric can become your next stylish bag.

For all you fashionistas out there, you can find the step by step instructions of this project here.

Here is another example of a book-turned-bag. So cute!

You can make use of your old book covers to come up with statement furniture like these.

Here is an easy project to do with all those old books. Turn them into book marks! They will make unique and memorable gifts this Christmas time.

Whatever you choose to do with your old books, may it bring you happiness again just like it did when you first opened it.

The Painless Secret to Removing Splinters

Save your household a lot of wailing the next time one of your kids accidentally get a splinter.  Instead of removing it with a tweezer, try glue!
Just pour a drop of glue all over the splinter, let it dry, then peel off the dried glue from the skin.  The splinter sticks to the glue!
I tried this on my 4 year old and for the first time, splinter removal was finally fuss free!  Yay!
A word of caution though, if the splinter is in too deep, I suggest going to a doctor to have it professionally removed. Don’t ever try to cut open the skin to remove the splinter yourself.
Now since I’m on the subject of glue, here are more uses for it!
1. I fix the frayed corners of my bag by simply dabbing some glue on the corners.
2. I seal small nail holes on my wall by adding glue before adding touch up paint.

Life Hacks with Binder Clips

One of the most versatile things that I love to use are binder clips!  Here are some innovative ways on how to organize with them.

Toothpaste Squeezer

It helps keep the rolled up portion in place.

Cable Clamp

I store my cables neatly and knot-free this way.

Cable Catcher

I hate having to bend under my desk just to look for cables.  Binder clips attached to the end of the table help keep them easily accessible.

Ribbon Clamp

My ribbons never unravel on me with the help of binder clips!

Accessories Organizer

Here’s how I keep my necklaces from tangling with each other.  I use binder clips to keep them neat on a hanger!

Chips Bag Clip

I keep my chips and cookies crisp and fresh with binder clips.  I think it holds the bag shut tighter compared to other bag clips actually made for this purpose.

Refrigerator Item Lock

Bottles inside the refrigerator are held neatly stacked with the help of binder clips!

There are many ways to organize using everyday office supplies.  This also helps you save money versus having to buy the exact tool needed.

Happy organizing and stay OCfied!

Collect Them All!

I’ve collected plenty of these throughout the years… no, they’re not action figures nor art… they’re business cards!  Some from clients, others from publications and networks, a big chunk from suppliers, and then some from doctors, professionals, resorts, salons and many, many more!

I do save the important numbers on my mobile phone but I keep the card anyway for future reference.  And I’m sure glad I did because one time when my phone bogged down, I lost all my contacts!

Here’s how to “OCfy” your big business card collection:

1. Organize According to Category

I know a lot of business card organizers have those little tabs that keep them alphabetized. But I would rather organize according to category since I won’t be able to remember the name of the company or person I need to look for them under the correct letter.  So what I did was to remove all the alphabet tabs and replace them with labels of my own (using my label maker of course!).  So now if for example I need an events supplier, I go through the “Suppliers” tab.  If I need to contact my hairstylist, then I look through the “Beauty and Health” tab.

2.Write Notes.

I add my own notes at the back of some cards especially if it’s not easy to remember what the company is for, or where I met that person, or his or her nickname.

3. Find the Perfect Organization Tool

Now the fun part… choose an organization tool that will keep your business cards together in an easy to access system.

You can use a puncher and a ball chain or heavy string.

Binder snap rings work well, too!

Or use a good ol’ rolodex.  Jazz it up by covering the dividers with craft paper.
